Rovio (previously known as Relude & Rovio Mobile, currently known as Rovio Entertainment) is a Finnish game publisher formed in 2003 in Espoo, Finland by Helsinki University of Technology students Niklas Hed, Jarno Väkeväinen and Kim Dikert.
History
The company originally started out developing games for the Assembly Demo Party. Until in 2005 when the company got it's first sponsor. This caused the company to rebrand to "Rovio Mobile", with the word "Rovio" meaning "Bonfire" in Finnish.[1] When the rebrand occurred in March of that same year, Rovio only had 20 employees with 3 in-house development teams for J2ME and real-time multiplayer games.[2]
